疫情後本港餐飲業步入寒冬期，不過就算經濟不景氣，仍有社企逆市在深水埗開設深水埗銀杏冰室，讓基層市民可以用相宜價錢「食得好、食得飽」。
根據政府統計處資料，以地區計算，深水埗每個月入息中位數為22,800元，在18區內排名尾二。而香港基督教女青年會做的深水埗基層家庭生活擔子調查顯示，受訪者擔心自己及家人的健康之外，也對食物價格相當煩惱。 社企行政總裁麥姑娘表示，深水埗區有不同基層人士，包括獨居長者、劏房戶及街友，希望開設冰室能夠服務更多有需要的人士。「好想深水埗成為一個社區飯堂，我哋好想服務呢個區，令客人入到嚟好有尊嚴咁食飯，可能食一隻烚蛋、飲一杯羅漢果茶，甚至純粹入嚟食一碗番薯粥，佢哋都可以咁樣享用，我覺得呢個係最好。」 冰室於去年3月中開店，麥姑娘坦言營運上曾經歷不少困難，從建構到裝修，再到決定餐單、招聘員工。「成個過程中都想有更多人參與，譬如社會人士、唔同嘅長者員工都俾咗好多豐富經驗，呢區街坊亦有幫手，特別係食材供應商。」開設冰室，價錢是其中一個最重要的考慮，她說希望能夠提供蔬菜和肉搭配，讓基層市民能夠「支付到、食得到」。
從餐牌可見，冰室主打家常菜，價錢相當親民，各種包類由1元至5元不等、2元一隻烚蛋、不同粥類由6至11元不等。而小菜類，10元就有一碟豉汁涼瓜，想食米粉亦只是11元，甚至連柱侯排骨、南乳豬手及蘿蔔牛腩都只是12元，簡直是時光倒流價錢。 雖然冰室位置較為僻靜，惟在街坊口口相傳下，反應較預期中好，不少市民在門外排隊。有食客大讚冰室為「全香港最平、靚、正，又快又衛生，又食得安樂。」、「呢杯奶茶5蚊、出面賣20幾蚊」。除了價錢外，有食客亦大讚環境及服務良好，「一方面啲嘢好食，招呼好、服務又好，又經濟。好好，好舒服，無乜壓力。」 雖然食物充足，不過麥姑娘坦言冰室缺乏水果供應，「水果對一班基層朋友嚟講係奢侈品，所以我哋都希望唔同嘅商戶、如果有能力的朋友可以嚟支持，可能佢用任何形式，可以嚟惠顧我哋啦，亦都可以送食材俾我哋啦，令我哋可以持續發展，持續做到。」
